The Eastern Front was the largest and deadliest theater of operations in World War II. Primarily opposing Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, it was marked by fighting of unprecedented violence, colossal human losses, and a war of ideological annihilation. From the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 to the fall of Berlin in 1945, this front was the heart of the war in Eastern Europe.
